Many of these courses are included in our 100 hour, 200 hour and 500 hour training programs. All courses may be taken as a single class. You do not have to be enrolled in a training program to participate. We offer you a substantial discount for early registration for an individual course.

Fundamentals of Yoga


The Origins and History of Yoga

Come Explore Yoga History - learn the foundations of yoga, both historically and as it exists in our modern world.

In this class we will explore the roots of yoga along with its cultural and spiritual significance and follow it through its many evolutions to bring us an understanding of how yoga has changed through the years.

We will also learn about the many different styles of yoga and how its development continues.

A picture is worth a thousand words and what an illuminating way to explore the interesting history of yoga through artist interpretations of the subject. This class will explore stone seals, paintings, illustrations and other artworks.

Yoga has gone through many transformation since its origin. How is yoga different now than when it was first created?

In this class we will explore the concepts that allow yoga to be as beneficial in the modern world as it was in the world of its creators.

Yoga in the USA

Yoga didn't begin in the USA, but once it got here it became something all its own. This class will focus how our culture has shaped yoga and how yoga continues to transform us.

Come explore the ongoing traditions, the yoga fads and the conflicts created by such a diverse yoga culture. We will look at yoga as an industry, as well as the scientific studies that are revealing the reasons behind yoga's remarkable transformational power.

Many people seek out yoga for its profound effect of relaxation. In this class we will study the body's natural relaxation response and why it is such a powerful antidote to stress.

BYB Energetics Topics


BYB Energetics - Alternative Health Concepts



The western science based ideas regarding health are not the only factors that affect health choices. In this class we expore the alternative concepts regarding health and healing. Ranging from energetic work with chakras and meridians to the nutritional concepts of ayurveda as well as techniques used in acupuncture, this class will give you a better understanding of alternative health choices.

BYB Energetics - Tai Chi



The origins of Tai Chi and yoga are similar in age and share many themes. Tai Chi has often been described as a moving meditation. Its action enhance balance and coordination and regular practice reduces stress.

Tai Chi is considered synergistic with yoga and the practice of both can enhance the benefits of each system dramatically.

This class will take showcase a form of Tai Chi that Julie Byrd has practiced and taught for over two decades. We will explore a simplified version of this form that can be learned in just a short time.

Yoga Ethics


Ethical Dilemmas in Yoga



Being a good yoga teacher means having a proper ethical perspective. Having good ethics is more than just a list of what not to do, but also involves how we think and respond to those different from ourselves.

This course outlines the ethical considerations and conflicts faced by all yoga practitioners. We will look in-depth at the practical applications of ethical considerations as well as the standard of business ethics as applied to yoga.

The Good, the Bad and the Yogi



The public perception of yoga changes based on who is in the public eye. When yogis do good things, public perception of yoga is enhanced. However, when yogis do bad things, all of yoga suffers.

Detoxing: Sugar Detox



Sugar Detox is part of our Detoxing Series of seminars that explore methods of ridding ourselves of toxins. In this segment, we explore the truth about sugar in our diet from processed foods to fruit. In this thorough report we will cover all the natural sugars and sugar substitutes that are available and commonly found in our foods.

Your seminar handout will include a chart that lists the pros and cons of each substance as a handy reference. BYB Yoga Conditioning teaches you how to create a powerful body without going to the gym. The key to flexibility is strength and yoga works better when we are stronger but many are confused by the contradictions they find in standard strengthening regimes.

Progressive Resistance Training incorporates exercises from many disciplines including yoga, pilates, weight training and tai chi. It uses many different props which are all easily attainable for home use and also are typically found within most gym environments.

The philosophies of proper body conditioning and the safe practice of exercise are emphasized during this course. This course emphasizes the details necessary for students to safely and effectively enhance their strength and conditioning body wide.

BYB Pink Ribbon Recuperative Yoga Specialist Training



The BYB Pink Ribbon Recuperative Yoga Intensive is an interactive, two-day, 12 hour course designed to share essential knowledge and information that is fundamental to the successful evaluation and rehabilitation of the breast cancer survivor. The center of training will be the balance of body, mind and spirit, utilizing knowledge of anatomy and the integration of information from the areas of functional exercise, shoulder rehabilitation, recuperative yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques. This course is open to anyone who has an open heart and who would like to offer a healing path for breast cancer survivors.
