The following is a list and description of all courses offered through Balance Your Body Yoga. Our course catalog is extensive with some courses offered in the current year and some offered at a later date.

Many of these courses are included in our 100 hour, 200 hour and 500 hour training programs. All courses may be taken as a single class. You do not have to be enrolled in a training program to participate. We offer you a substantial discount for early registration for an individual course.

Fundamentals of Yoga



Pranayama (Breathing Techniques)


Pranayama
(Breathing Techniques) - Developing a Deep Breath



Pranayama is the science of the yoga breath. Prana has been described as a subtle invisible force, the life-force that pervades the body.

In this class we will practice several different breathing techniques from the most basic to more advanced forms to help us develop a deep breath.

No previous experience with Pranayama breathing techniques is required.

Special Attendance Options:

  • Attend just the lecture portion of the class (12:30pm - 2pm).
  • Attend the 11:30 Gentle Yoga class and then the following lecture until 2pm.
  • Attend 9am Beginning/Intermediate yoga and then 11:30 Gentle Yoga followed by the lecture through 2pm.

Tai Chi - Four Corners Form



The origins of Tai Chi and yoga are similar in age and share many themes. Tai Chi has often been described as a moving meditation. Its action enhance balance and coordination and regular practice reduces stress.

Tai Chi is considered synergistic with yoga and the practice of both can enhance the benefits of each system dramatically.

This class will take showcase a form of Tai Chi that Julie Byrd has practiced and taught for over two decades. We will explore a simplified version of this form that can be learned in just a short time.

Yoga Ethics


Ethical Dilemmas in Yoga



Being a good yoga teacher means having a proper ethical perspective. Having good ethics is more than just a list of what not to do, but also involves how we think and respond to those different from ourselves.

This course outlines the ethical considerations and conflicts faced by all yoga practitioners. We will look in-depth at the practical applications of ethical considerations as well as the standard of business ethics as applied to yoga.

Yoga Nutrition



Nutrition: Biome Building - Fermenting Foods



We may have heard about fermented foods and even seen them in stores. They are highly nutritious and great for supporting the health of our internal biome, the bacterial colony that lives in our large intestines.
In this class we will take a hands on approach to learning how easy it is to create fermented foods for ouselves. I will lead you step by step into how to create tasty and healthy biome building foods.
In addition, this class takes an in-depth look at what the newest information about probiotics and prebiotics and their role in our health. Learn which probiotics are best, how prebiotics factor into the mix and how best to add them to your diet.

Detoxing: Sugar Detox



Sugar Detox is part of our Detoxing Series of seminars that explore methods of ridding ourselves of toxins. In this segment, we explore the truth about sugar in our diet from processed foods to fruit. In this thorough report we will cover all the natural sugars and sugar substitutes that are available and commonly found in our foods.

Your seminar handout will include a chart that lists the pros and cons of each substance as a handy reference. We will also explore just what makes us desire something sweet and how too much of a "sweet tooth" can lead to our downfall. Useful tips will be shared on how to kick the habit and rid ourselves of sugar addiction.

Yoga Teaching Styles



Recuperative Yoga Lesson Plans - Reclined Yoga



The goal of Recuperative Yoga is to create an appropriate level of yoga for any student, ranging from those with significant physical limitations to top athletes. The program incorporates the latest scientific information to confirm the validity of yoga as an important tool for creating optimal muscular balance.

This seminar will focus on lesson plans that reinterpret yoga from a reclined position, offering benefits to those who prefer or are limited to this position. This style of yoga is beneficial to those with low back issues, suffer from balance issues or who are confined to beds.
